Main Lines & Sewer Repair — Licensed Since 1957

Sewer & Drain
Services in Longview, TX

The main sewer line is the one piece of plumbing where a problem affects the entire house at once. Longview has a great deal of mature pine and oak sitting above clay and cast iron lines laid decades ago, which is a combination that produces root intrusion, settlement and eventual failure — on a fairly predictable schedule.

Main Line Blockages

When every fixture in the house slows or backs up together, the problem is the main line rather than any one drain. That is a different and more urgent situation.

Hydro Jetting

High-pressure water that scours the pipe wall back to full diameter rather than boring a channel through the blockage. The right tool for grease, scale and soft roots.

Looking inside the line before spending money on it. It distinguishes a maintenance problem from a broken pipe, which no amount of cabling ever will.

Root Intrusion

Mature trees find the smallest defect in an older sewer line and grow inside it. Cutting them back clears the line; it does not remove the reason they are there.

Sewer Lines in Longview

Three local conditions account for most of the sewer work we do, and they compound one another.

Mature trees and older pipe ▾

Longview has a lot of established pine and oak, and their roots are effective at finding moisture. A hairline crack or a slightly open joint in a clay or cast iron line is all they need, and once inside they thrive on what is flowing past. The result is a line that blocks, gets cleared, runs freely for months, and blocks again — because cabling cuts the roots back rather than removing them or closing the defect they entered through.

Camera Inspection →

The expansive clay that causes slab leaks does the same thing to buried sewer lines. Sections settle unevenly, creating a belly — a low point where the line no longer falls continuously and water sits instead of flowing. Solids collect in that low point and the line blocks repeatedly no matter how thoroughly it is cleared. A belly cannot be cabled or jetted away; the pipe has to be re-laid.

Slab Leaks →

A great deal of older Longview housing is still served by original clay or cast iron sewer line. Clay joints separate as the ground moves; cast iron corrodes from the inside until the bottom of the pipe is effectively gone. Neither fails suddenly — they degrade over years, which is why the symptom people notice is blockages becoming more frequent rather than a single dramatic event.

Pipe Repair →

Roots, a belly, a crack and a grease coating all produce exactly the same experience inside your house, and they have completely different remedies and price tags. A camera costs a fraction of an unnecessary excavation and it is the only way to tell them apart. We would rather spend an hour looking than have you pay to open the wrong ten feet of yard.

Symptom to Likely Cause

Confirmed by camera before any excavation.

What You Notice Likely Cause Next Step
Every drain slow at once Main line restriction Camera, then clear
Blocks again within months Roots or a belly Camera inspection
Sewage at the lowest fixture Main line blocked Emergency — stop using water
Gurgling when another fixture drains Partial main line blockage Book before it closes fully
Sewer smell outdoors Possible break in the line Camera inspection

How We Work

Clear it if it is blocked, then find out why before anybody talks about digging.

1
Establish the Scope

One fixture or the whole house tells us immediately whether this is a branch drain or the main line.

2
Clear the Immediate Problem

Cabling for a discrete obstruction, jetting where the pipe wall is coated. We explain which and why.

3
Camera If It Has Recurred

For a line that has blocked before, looking is cheaper than clearing it again. You watch the screen with us.

4
Options and Flat Quote

If a repair is needed, the fault is located and marked from the surface so the excavation is minimal.

Signs of a Main Line Problem

Branch drain problems affect one fixture. These affect the house.

🐢
Every drain in the house running slow The restriction is in the line serving all of them rather than in any one fixture.
🚽
Toilet level rising or falling on its own Pressure changes in a partially blocked main line. This is the one to act on before it closes completely.
🫧
Gurgling from one fixture when another drains Air being pulled through a restriction. It means the two share a problem further downstream.
🌊
Water appearing at the lowest drain Waste backing up to the first available exit. Stop using water everywhere and call.
🌱
An unusually green or sunken patch in the yard A break in the buried line leaking beneath the surface. Often the first outdoor sign.
👃
Sewer smell inside or outside Gases escaping through a defect before reaching the vent. Worth investigating rather than masking.

What Causes Main Line Failures Here

🌲
Tree roots Pine and oak seeking moisture through the smallest joint defect, then growing to fill the pipe.
🏗️
Ground settlement Clay movement letting sections drop, creating bellies where water and solids stand rather than flow.
🕰️
Ageing clay and cast iron Joints separating and pipe corroding from the inside over fifty years or more of service.
🍳
Grease accumulation Kitchen grease coating the pipe wall over years until ordinary debris is enough to block it.

Sewer & Drain Questions from Longview Homeowners

What people ask when the problem is the main line rather than one drain.

How do I know if the problem is my main sewer line? ▾

The clearest indicator is that multiple fixtures are affected at once. A single slow sink is a branch drain problem. Every drain in the house running slowly, a toilet whose water level moves on its own, or gurgling from one fixture when another drains — those all point at the shared main line. Waste water appearing at the lowest drain in the house means it is already blocked.

It varies a great deal, which is exactly why we camera the line first. Clearing a blockage is inexpensive. Jetting a grease-coated line is moderate. Excavating and replacing a collapsed section depends on depth, length and what is above it. Knowing which of those you are facing before committing to anything is worth far more than a phone estimate.

Because cabling clears the blockage without addressing what caused it. The three usual culprits are roots that have grown in through a joint, a belly where the line has settled so water no longer flows through, or a grease coating narrowing the pipe. A cable bores through all three and none of them go away. A camera identifies which one you have, and each has a different remedy.

High-pressure water directed against the pipe wall, scouring off grease, scale and soft root matter to restore close to the original diameter. You need it when the line has a coating problem rather than a single obstruction — the giveaway is a drain that blocks again a few months after each clearing. On a structurally sound line it is a very effective maintenance measure.

Stop using water anywhere immediately — every flush and appliance cycle adds to what is coming up. Keep people and pets away from the contaminated area and ventilate. Do not pour drain chemicals in; they will not clear a main line blockage and they make the water hazardous for whoever has to work in it. Then call us, day or night.

We would strongly suggest it, particularly on an older property with mature trees. Sewer lines are excluded from standard home inspections, so a failing line is exactly the kind of thing that appears a month after closing as a very large bill. An hour of camera work either reassures you or gives you something concrete to negotiate with.
