Load-Calculated Sizing — Bryant Factory Authorized

Heating Installation
in Longview, TX

The single biggest determinant of whether a new heating system performs is not the brand on the cabinet. It is whether it was sized for the house and installed onto ductwork capable of carrying its output. We do the load calculation first, and we will tell you if your existing ducts are the actual problem.

Heating System Options

There is no single right answer, and the honest recommendation depends on whether you have gas service, how long you plan to stay, and what your ductwork can actually carry.

🔥

Gas Furnaces

Fast, powerful recovery heat for homes with existing gas service. The right choice where you want a warm blast quickly, though in this climate it spends most of the year idle.

  • High-Efficiency Models
  • Existing Gas Service
  • Fast Recovery Heat
  • Annual Safety Check Essential
Furnace Services →
🌡️

Heat Pumps

Usually the best value in East Texas. One system for both seasons, efficient across nearly the whole local winter, and no combustion to inspect annually.

  • Heating and Cooling in One
  • Ideal for This Climate
  • No Combustion Safety Risk
  • Lowest Running Cost
Heat Pump Installation →
⚙️

Dual-Fuel Systems

A heat pump paired with a gas furnace that takes over only in genuinely cold weather. Highest install cost, lowest running cost, and the best of both approaches.

  • Heat Pump Plus Gas Backup
  • Automatic Changeover
  • Lowest Operating Cost
  • Best for Existing Gas Homes

Electric Furnaces

For homes without gas service. Inexpensive to install and simple to maintain, but resistance heat is the most expensive way to warm a house.

  • No Gas Service Required
  • Low Install Cost
  • Simple Maintenance
  • Highest Running Cost

Load Calculation & Sizing

Square footage alone is not a sizing method. Insulation, window area, orientation, ceiling height and duct capacity all change the answer.

Financing

Heating replacement is rarely a planned purchase. Payment options exist so a failed system in December does not have to be an impossible decision.

What Actually Determines Installation Quality

Two identical units installed by two companies will not perform identically. Here is where the difference lives.

Sizing: bigger is not better ▾

An oversized heating system reaches the thermostat setpoint quickly and shuts off, then restarts a few minutes later. That short cycling means it never runs at steady state where it is efficient, it wears components out early, and it produces uneven temperatures because air never circulates long enough to mix. Oversizing is the most common installation error in this industry and it is entirely avoidable with a proper load calculation.

Heating Repair →

A new furnace connected to undersized, leaky or poorly laid-out ducts will underperform no matter what its rating says. In East Texas a great deal of ductwork runs through unconditioned attic space, where leakage is not just lost air but lost money on every cycle. We assess the ducts as part of quoting, and we would rather tell you the ducts are the problem than sell you equipment that will not fix it.

Ductwork Services →

If you have gas service and want fast recovery, a furnace makes sense, with the caveat that it needs an annual combustion safety check. If you want the lowest running cost and one system for both seasons, a heat pump is usually the better answer in this climate. Dual fuel gives you both at a higher install cost. Electric resistance is cheapest to install and by some distance the most expensive to run.

Heat Pump Installation →

Correct sizing, a level and properly supported unit, sealed duct connections, correct gas piping and venting on combustion equipment, a new filter housing where the old one was inadequate, commissioning under load, and the old equipment removed and disposed of. Any of those skipped is invisible on the day and expensive within two years.

System Comparison

General guidance — the load calculation and your gas service decide it.

System Install Cost Running Cost
Heat pump Moderate Lowest in this climate
Dual fuel (heat pump + furnace) Highest Lowest overall
Gas furnace Moderate Low, where gas service exists
Electric furnace Lowest Highest by a wide margin

How an Installation Works

Assessed properly, quoted clearly, and commissioned before we call it finished.

1
Assessment and Load Calculation

We measure the house rather than the old unit. If the previous system was wrong, matching it repeats the mistake.

2
Options and a Clear Quote

Usually two or three genuine options with the trade-offs explained, not a single number and a signature line.

3
Installation

Old equipment removed, new unit set and connected, duct joints sealed, and the work area protected and cleaned.

4
Commissioned and Explained

Run under load, airflow and combustion verified, thermostat set up, and warranty registration handled.

When Replacement Beats Another Repair

Repair is usually the right call. These are the situations where it stops being.

🕰️
The system is over fifteen years old Past that point major components start failing in sequence, and money spent extending it rarely buys much time.
🛑
A cracked heat exchanger This ends the discussion regardless of cost. It is a carbon monoxide risk and the system should not run.
💸
The repair costs a large fraction of replacement A rough rule: if a repair approaches half the cost of a new system on equipment past twelve years, replacement is the better decision.
🔁
You have paid for repairs two winters running Two failures in two seasons is a pattern rather than bad luck, and the third is usually already on its way.
🌡️
Rooms that never reach temperature Chronic uneven heating usually means the system is wrong for the house or the ducts cannot carry the output. Another repair will not change either.
📈
Winter bills climbing year on year Declining efficiency as components wear. At some point the running cost difference funds a meaningful part of the replacement.

What We Assess Before Quoting

📐
Heat loss for the actual house Insulation, window area and orientation change the answer substantially between two houses of identical square footage.
🌬️
Duct capacity and condition Undersized or leaking ductwork limits any system. We would rather find that before you buy equipment than after.
🔥
Gas service and venting Whether gas is available, and whether the existing flue and piping suit the equipment being considered.
🏠
How long you plan to stay It genuinely changes the recommendation. A five-year horizon and a twenty-year one point at different systems.

Why Choose Napps for Installation

Heating Installation Questions

What people ask before replacing a heating system.

How much does a new furnace cost in Longview? ▾

It depends on the type of system, the capacity your house actually needs, the efficiency rating you choose and whether the ductwork needs work. Anyone quoting a firm number before seeing the house is guessing. We assess the property, run the load calculation, and give you a fixed price with usually two or three genuine options and the trade-offs explained.

A straightforward furnace or heat pump replacement is usually a single day. If ductwork needs modification, or the installation involves relocating equipment or converting from one system type to another, plan on two days or more. We give you a realistic schedule up front rather than an optimistic one.

Often, yes — if both are near the end of their lives. They share the indoor cabinet, the coil and the ductwork, so doing them together avoids paying twice for overlapping labour and guarantees the two halves are properly matched. If one has substantial life left, we will say so rather than selling you both.

No, and this is the most common misconception in the trade. An oversized system heats quickly, shuts off, then restarts a few minutes later. That short cycling means it never runs at the steady state where it is efficient, it wears out early, and it gives you uneven temperatures because the air never circulates long enough to mix. Correctly sized beats oversized every time.

Yes. Heating replacement is almost never a planned purchase — it usually arrives on the coldest night of the year attached to a repair estimate nobody budgeted for. Payment plans are available and we will go through them before you decide, not as a pressure tactic afterwards.

Usually, and sometimes substantially, particularly if you are replacing something fifteen years old or resistance electric heat with a heat pump. But the saving depends as much on your ductwork and insulation as on the equipment. We would rather set an honest expectation than promise a figure that assumes ideal conditions your house does not have.
