Heat Pump Installation
in Longview, TX

Replacing a furnace and an air conditioner with a single heat pump is one of the few HVAC decisions that improves running costs, reduces the equipment you maintain, and removes combustion safety from your house entirely. In this climate the case for it is unusually strong — which is exactly why the sizing has to be right.

What Makes a Heat Pump Installation Work

Heat pumps are less tolerant of installation shortcuts than furnaces, because they run long and lean rather than short and hard.

Why oversizing hurts a heat pump more than a furnace ▾

Heat pumps achieve their efficiency by running long steady cycles at moderate output. Oversize one and it satisfies the thermostat quickly, shuts off, and repeats — which means it spends its life in the least efficient part of its operating range, never dehumidifies properly in summer, and wears out early. A furnace tolerates this badly; a heat pump tolerates it worse. This is why the load calculation is not a formality.

Heat Pump Services →

Because a heat pump delivers a large volume of gently warm air rather than a small volume of hot air, it depends on the ducts moving that volume properly. Undersized or leaky ductwork that a furnace merely struggled with will noticeably limit a heat pump. In East Texas, where much ductwork runs through hot unconditioned attics, this is worth assessing honestly before buying equipment.

Ductwork Services →

How auxiliary heat is configured determines a large part of your winter bill. A properly staged system brings strips in only when genuinely needed, and a properly configured thermostat avoids the large set-backs that force expensive morning recoveries. This is a setup decision made at installation, and getting it wrong is invisible until the January bill arrives.

Heat Pump Repair →

A dual-fuel system uses the heat pump for the overwhelming majority of an East Texas winter and switches to the gas furnace only below a changeover point. You get heat pump running costs nearly all season and furnace-grade comfort during a hard freeze, without ever paying for resistance strips. The install costs more because you are fitting both. If gas service already exists, it is usually the lowest lifetime cost option available.

Which Configuration?

General guidance — the load calculation and your gas service decide it.

Your Situation Usual Recommendation Why
Electric resistance heat now Straight heat pump Largest running cost improvement available
Gas furnace, want lowest bills Dual fuel Heat pump most of the season, gas in a freeze
Gas furnace, simplest option Heat pump with strips One system, no combustion to inspect
No ductwork in the space Ductless mini-split No duct installation needed
Both AC and furnace failing Heat pump Replaces both with one system

How an Installation Works

Assessed properly, configured deliberately, and commissioned before we call it finished.

1
Assessment and Load Calculation

We size for the house, not for the equipment being replaced. Oversizing hurts a heat pump particularly badly.

2
Options and a Clear Quote

Straight heat pump, dual fuel or ductless where relevant, with the running-cost trade-offs explained plainly.

3
Installation

Old equipment removed and taken away, new system set, refrigerant lines and duct connections properly sealed.

4
Commissioned and Configured

Charge verified, airflow measured, auxiliary heat staging and thermostat set up deliberately, warranty registered.

When a Heat Pump Is the Right Move

The case is stronger in some situations than others. These are the strongest.

⚡
You currently heat with electric resistance The single biggest running-cost improvement available in residential HVAC. A heat pump delivers several times the heat per unit of electricity.
🔁
Both the furnace and air conditioner are near end of life One heat pump replaces both, on one installation visit, with one system to maintain thereafter.
🛡️
You would rather not have combustion in the house No heat exchanger, no carbon monoxide risk, no annual combustion inspection.
🏗️
You are adding a room the ducts never reached A ductless mini-split heat pump handles additions and conversions without extending the existing system.
📈
Winter bills have become the problem Particularly if you are on resistance heat, where the difference is dramatic rather than marginal.
🏠
You are staying in the house long term The running-cost advantage compounds. Over ten or fifteen years it becomes the dominant number rather than the install price.

What We Assess Before Quoting

📐
Heat loss and gain for the actual house Insulation, window area and orientation change the answer between two houses of identical size.
🌬️
Duct capacity and leakage Heat pumps move more air than furnaces. Ducts that merely limited a furnace will noticeably limit a heat pump.
⚡
Electrical service and auxiliary staging What the panel can support, and how auxiliary heat should be staged to keep it off except when genuinely needed.
🔥
Whether gas service makes dual fuel worth it If gas is already present, dual fuel is usually the lowest lifetime cost configuration available.

Why Choose Napps for Heat Pump Installation

Sizing, staging and ductwork — the three things that decide whether it performs.

  • 📏
Load Calculation, Not Label Matching We size for the house. Heat pumps punish oversizing harder than any other system type.
  • 🎛️
Auxiliary Heat Staged Deliberately How the strips are configured is most of your winter bill, and it is a decision made at installation.
  • 🌬️
Honest About Your Ductwork If the ducts will limit the system we say so before you buy, even when that complicates the sale.

Heat Pump Installation Questions

What people ask before switching to a heat pump.

How much does heat pump installation cost in Longview? ▾

It depends on the capacity your house needs, the efficiency rating you choose, whether you go standard or dual fuel, and whether ductwork or electrical work is required. Anyone quoting firmly over the phone is guessing. We assess the property, run the load calculation and give a fixed price with genuine options and the running-cost differences explained, not just the install prices.

Yes, and in this climate it is often the better decision. A heat pump uses your existing ductwork, so the conversion is usually straightforward, and because the same equipment handles cooling you are replacing both halves of your HVAC system at once. If you have gas service, a dual-fuel setup keeps the furnace for genuinely cold nights while running the heat pump the rest of the season.

Yes. For the overwhelming majority of an East Texas winter the heat pump handles it alone and efficiently. During the occasional hard freeze, auxiliary heat — either electric strips or, in a dual-fuel system, the gas furnace — supplements it. The key is that this happens rarely here, which is exactly why the technology suits this climate so well.

Usually a great deal, because it is the largest efficiency gap in residential HVAC. Resistance heat converts electricity to heat at roughly one to one; a heat pump moves several units of heat for each unit of electricity it uses. The exact saving depends on your house, insulation and ductwork, and we would rather set an honest expectation for your situation than quote a percentage that assumes ideal conditions.

Usually, though it is worth checking rather than assuming. Heat pumps move a larger volume of air than furnaces, so ducts that merely limited a furnace can noticeably limit a heat pump. We assess duct capacity and leakage as part of the quote, and if the ductwork is the real constraint we will tell you before you buy equipment rather than after it underperforms.

A standard heat pump replacement is generally one day. Converting from a furnace, fitting a dual-fuel system, or doing ductwork alongside extends that to two days or more. We give you a realistic schedule when we quote rather than an optimistic one.
